March 7-11

Writing
Our students have been working very hard and creating amazing poems! This week we will be publishing our poems and sharing them with the class. We will also be practicing addressing different writing prompts.

Reading
This is our last week with our unit on poetry and sensory language. Students have had fun making inferences and drawing conclusions about the structure and elements of poetry. They’ve learned about how rhyme, rhythm, and repetition interact to create images in poetry.  They’ve been introduced to new poems and even written some of their own.  This week, we will read more poems and visualize the images and think  about the author’s heart and message.  Students will analyze poems and discuss how poets sometimes use strategies to create their writing.

Math
We are continuing 4 digit place value this week by practicing all the different forms numbers can take: block form, expanded form, and word form. We will also practice adding and subtracting 10 and 100 to 4 digit numbers. We will wrap up everything with an assessment and spend the rest of the week reviewing different second grade math skills with some spring-themed stations!

Support our classroom learning by having your child complete these in IXL:

Science and Social Studies:
We had a great visit from Dowser Dan to learn about the water cycle and conserving water.  This week we will present our safety maps and solutions to the class.  They will include natural and manmade resources, water features, and landforms.  We are looking forward to hearing about all of the safety solutions they have designed!

Research question of the week:
How does a match light?
