February 27th- March 3rd

Writing and Reading
We're starting poetry this week. We will get in touch with our 5 senses and use them to write several kinds of poems. We will use our poet's eye to see things in a new light and come up with different descriptions. We will also read lots of poems to get inspired. After reading, we will look at the different rhythms and rhymes a poem can have as well as dissecting the meaning of a poem.

Math:
3 digit addition will continue this week as we take what we've learned and apply it to word problems. Toward the end of the week, we will start 3 digit subtraction. First we will practice regrouping with base-ten blocks and move into using the traditional algorithm. We will play games and work on word problems to practice what we've learned.

Science:
We are finishing up the water cycle with our water cycle ballet! After a short assessment, we will move into weather. We will review the seasons and the science behind the seasons. We will also create our own meteorologist report based on the upcoming weather.

Reminders:
Mrs. Alden will be out on Wednesday. Call the office if you have a change in transportation.

Reading:
This week we are thinking about what fills our heart. We will decorate a heart with things we love and then write a short story to tell everyone about them!

Math:
We're back to measurement this week as we tackle the metric system. We will learn about centimeters and meters and decide when to use each. We will also measure the same thing in both inches and centimeters and figure out which unit we need more of and why it's different. We will also practice solving word problems with length as the topic. Then at the end of the week, we will take an assessment over everything we've learned.

Social Studies:
We're continuing our pirate maps this week. We've made our island and now it's time to bury the treasure! We plot out instructions using cardinal directions so that we don't lose our pot of gold!

This week we are focusing on the difference between a fact and an opinion. We will play several games and do a few activities to help us decide is that something that can proven or is it someone's personal thought. We will use what we learn to help in our persuasive writing, using facts to prove our point and opinions to convince our reader we are right.
