May 20-24

We are walking down memory lane this week! We will remember how far we have come in second grade, comparing what we knew in the beginning to what we know now. We will be writing notes to old and new friends. We will also look to the future and remember to dream big with Dr. Seuss's Oh, The Places You Will Go. All of these activities will go into a time capsule that you and your child can open and enjoy in a few years.

We are working on becoming future thespians while wrapping up our drama unit. We will work on distinguishing between genres and picking out morals. We will even get to perform our own play at the end of the week, practicing reading with fluency and expression.

In math, we will continue to practice rounding to the nearest ten and hundred. We will continue our review of math skills with some fun stations, focusing on expanded form, graphing, number order, and subtraction.

We are working on a very "sweet" writing assignment for our mothers this week.  We will also work on contractions and suffixes.  Our writer's workshop will take us from first drafts to publishing.  We will revisit reading skills that were learned throughout the year in our "Reading A-Z" books.  We will have our end of year reading assessments and Daily 5 as well.

Spelling:
Our spelling will focus on words with prefixes and suffixes.  Your child's new words will come home Monday. Since we did not have a spelling check last week, this week's check will feature 5 words the prefix list and 5 words from the suffix list. There will be no surprise words.

We will continue our economics unit this week by discussing producers and consumers and the steps to take a raw product to one that will sell.  On Thursday we will have a special Reptile Show with live animals to revisit our animal unit.

Reminders:
Library- Thursday. This is turn-in week. All books need to be turned in so the librarians have time to inventory everything by the end of the year. We will have our Spring Book Fair the following week.
