March 28-April 1st

A Note From Our Wonderful Music Teachers, Mr. Touchet and Mrs. Schuler
Just a reminder that the 2nd grade PTA performance is Tuesday, April 5. The PTA meeting will start at 6:30 and the performance will start right after that.

We would like to have the students in the cafeteria annex between 6:15 and 6:30 to prepare for the performance.

Attire will be school appropriate clothing.

We look forward to seeing everyone there for what will be a fun time and great performance.
Writing
This week in writing, we will be creating our own fables!  We will review different themes and moral lessons that we have seen in the folktales, fables, myths, and legends we have been reading in class, and use those great examples to inspire our own stories.

Reading
This week in reading we are continuing our unit of theme and genre. Students will analyze, make inferences and draw conclusions about theme and genre in different stories.  We will identify moral lessons as themes in well-known fables, legends, myths, or stories.

Math
We working on division this week. After learning about multiplication, we will start to figure out how division is the opposite of multiplication. We will practice taking a collection of things and dividing them into equal groups. We will work on word problems and play some games.

iXL has some great activities for fact practice, but doesn’t have the visuals that we will be using in class. Second graders are not required to memorize their multiplication or division facts, but memorization is a great thing to start working on if your child is ready.

Science and Social Studies:
Thank you all so much for sending in supplies for our science ecosystem unit.  We are currently learning about plants and then we will be discussing animals and then animal habitats.  The children will have an opportunity to pick and area of interest and go into a more indepth study of that ecosystem as we begin our unit.  Students will be able to work with different teachers starting next week on Fridays for this enrichment activity.  We are all looking forward to learning about ecosystems and sharing what we learn with our families.

Research question of the week:
Research carnivorous plants. How do they work? What do they eat? Where do they grow?
